School's history is on disc

Months of effort have gone into preserving decades of archival history at Patumahoe School.
The school's 140th year celebratory CD-ROM is now complete and available for sale.
It was originally set to be a small PTA project creating a DVD slideshow of images from the 140th reunion.
But when the school unearthed hundreds of photos and documents dating right back to when Patumahoe School comprised one small villa and a handful of students, it was clear this was a much bigger history assignment than intended.
Ross Julian, the computer technician and all-round "IT guy" worked for five months to create an interactive CD-ROM that, like a website, guides the user through the archives using a series of links.
He has scanned in over 600 photographs including images and video from calf club 2006 right back to those from the 1940s.
Ross says that one of the most exciting archives they found was a handwritten agricultural book illustrated in water colours which dated back to 1913.
Patumahoe School PTA is selling the CD-ROMs for $15 with all profits going to the school.
The launch of the CD-ROM was mentioned in the Talk of the towns section of the business page last Thursday. Franklin County News wishes to clarify that the launch of the CD-ROM is in no way affiliated with the Waiuku Business Development Association.
